Known and Unknown Challenges, Complexities, and Opportunities of working on Rowhouses

Have you ever wondered what is involved in renovating a historic rowhouse or the reality of working with an aging building stock?

What challenges and opportunities related to the health, safety and welfare exist when working on a rowhouse?

Why is the rowhouse typology resilient?

How can this typology be built upon through programmatic and performance adaptations to enhance the health, safety and welfare of the residents?

Despite similar physical bounds, each project has a unique story. The presentation will focus on three case-study projects: A double wide rowhouse that is completed, the passive rowhouse that is under construction, and the deep energy retrofit in design.

Presented by Lauren Thomsen, Principal at Lauren Thomsen Design and winner of AIA Philadelphia’s 2021 Emerging Architect Prize.
